About Me

My photo
I am a full time specialist Physics tutor operating in Klang Valley. I've been educating student for more than 10 years. My specialty is to transform student that had failed their physics subject into a better result. Even some of them managed to get an A in their final exam, You can read their testimony in this blog. I provide home tuition for physics subject to those living nearby KL especially around W.Maju, Ampang,Melawati and Setiawangsa. At the same time i 'm giving online tuition to all malaysia & overseas student. For tuition centre looking for a physics tutor, i'm also able to give seminar and conduct weekly classes. Meanwhile, for school teachers who are organising physics seminar, i am happy to assist u in that aspect. If u have enquiry on my service, do contact or whatsap me at 017-2877589 or email me at celikfizik @ gmail . com

Refraction Phenomena

In form 4 u’ve learned refraction of light. Light is part of electromagnetic wave. Thus other types of waves also undergo refraction.

Lets recall light refraction..watch this video!

Refraction is a phenomenon where there is a change of direction of the traveling waves from 1 medium to another due to change of speed.

Refraction of Water Wave:

When water waves move from deep to shallow region, their wavelength become shorter and the velocity decreases.

The frequency of the wave remain unchanged. This can be visualized in these video below.

wave bended as it moves from different depth

Wavelength λ decreased as it moves frm deeper to shallow region.

INCORRECT: "Refraction is a phenomenon where there is a change of direction of the traveling waves from 1 medium to another due to change of speed."

Why? Because when angle of incidence is zero (parallel to normal), direction of refracted waves same as that of incident waves although the WAVELENGTH & the SPEED CHANGE!

What about this?
"Refraction is a phenomenon in which the waves undergo changes in speed and wavelength without change of frequency when they travel from one medium to another medium - from denser (shallow water) to less dense medium (deeper water), speed and wavelength increases and the waves bend away from normal if angle of incidence > 0`; and from less dense to denser medium, speed and wavelength decrease and the waves bend towards normal if angle of incidence > 0`.

Compare notes in the noble values of science.
