SPM Physics: Relate the Usage Hour & Electrical energy

Selangor is under movement control order again. So we're advised to stay@home unless we've something need to be done.

One thing most people had noticed during the last locked-down period, our electricity bills were skyrocketing like never before.

Why the rate is so high?

Well..once we stay at home for almost 24hrs..we'll be using more electrical appliances. Air cond, electric fan, light bulbs & other electric appliances have to work for extra hours..Thus, more electrical energy will be used. TNB charged us based on the amount of energy being consumed. In a simple word..the more energy we use..the more we have to pay $$$$

So if u are a student, please learn how to minimize the usage hour...Or else be prepared to empty your parent's wallet at the end of the month..and that won't be nice..right? :)

SPM Physics: Solar Energy

It is almost a year and a half since I 've been using  10 solars led lamp to lights up the outdoor area of my house. Each lamp is rated with 5W if it is fully charged by solar energy.
The lamp is using LDR in which it lighted up automatically when it is dark.
Usually it starts from 730pm and the battery will last up to 6.30am.
So total hours for a day will be 11 hr.
Now lets calculate how much energy in kilowatt-hour is consumed a day for each lamp:

Total energy consumed a day by one solar LED lamp:
Energy,E = P x t
            E = 0.005kW x 11hr
            E = 0.055 kW hr

Since I am using 10 lamp..so  total energy per day will be,
            E = 10 x (0.055)
            E = 0.55 kWhr.

Imagine for a year in average will be 365 days..
So total energy used per year will be….
           E =(365 days) x 0.55
           E = 200.75 kWhr.

Usually TNB's average rate for  1kWhr =RM0.218
So for a year, On average these 10 lamps should cost me…
           RM0.218 x 200.75 = RM43.76

The best part is I don’t have to pay anything to TNB as I am using a free source of energy which is the solar energy from the sun.
Can u imagine if all our electrical appliances are powered by solar energy? How much money will be saved a year? The most important part is it is environmentally friendly.
 Let's fully utilize solar energy.

SPM Physics :2019 Results

Alhamdulillah.. yesterday SPM2019 candidates received their results. Some were happy, some were not..but i m sure most of them had given their best.
Congratulations to those who get flying colors SPM result..as well as those who had made lots of improvement.

As for my physics home tuition students, last year's result looks encouraging. The majority have improved except one student didn't meet the expectation as she got B+ compared to A- for the trial. The good news is the lowest grade for physics among my students is B. ..the rest is a mix of A-, A & A+...
Anyway congratulations again to all SPM2019 candidates and kudos too to all the school teachers for your contributions.

Here some example testimony of my student results:

How To Grab an 'A' in SPM Physics Paper( Part 1)

Here some tips for u to work out in order to grab an A in physics paper for SPM:

1. GRAB THE BASIC DEFINITION:
Specific heat capacity, Pessure, Power, Current, etc..eventhough it only contributes 1 mark..once u 've understood the definition it is
 easier to explore the whole concept in details.

2. GRAB THE PHYSICS PRINCIPLE & THEIR APPLICATION
Pascal's application:         Hydraulic system,
Archimedes's application: Hot air balloon, Hydrometer, submarine ,
Bernoulli's application:      Aerofoil, bunsen burner
Please do not ignore the application part..go through as many as u can...favorate for paper 1 & paper 2.

3. GRAB THE PHYSICS LAW & IT's APPLICATION
Hooke’s Law Newton 1st & 2nd law of Motion,Boyle’s Law
Charles’s Law,Pressure Law Law Of Reflection
Snell’s Law Law Of Refraction
Ohm’s Law Faraday ‘s Law,Lenz’s Law
If u can understand each of these laws it will help u answering paper1,2 & 3 with confidence.

4. GRAB THE FORMULA
Identify the formula which is given and not given in the exam. Use them not only for calculation but learn how to relate the quantities in the formula..e.g P=F/A..larger area produce lower pressure.

5.GRAB ALL THE EXPERIMENT
Learn to do short & simple procedure & draw its apparatus arrangement..& the most important is to grab the correct MV & RV.

6. GRAB THE GRAPH SKILL
Know how to interpret the graph gradient and relate it with maths equation y=mx+c

7. GRAB SPM PASS QUESTIONS
There's no other way except practice will make u perfect. Perhaps by doing 10 questions a day will take your lower grades away.

SPM Physics Home Tuition

Last weekend I went to one of the SBP nearby Putrajaya to give physics tuition to a new student. He didn't do well in his final exam in which he scored just above the passing mark. In that first session, we did some soul searching to figure out what went wrong in the last exam. It turns up that one of the main reasons, he missed 2 months of class after he broke his leg during a rugby match. So for those who actively involved in sports..please look after your self. Avoid getting unnecessary injury especially if u are now in form 5.

Then I advised him like it or not he needs to learn how to study physics on his own because I can only visit him 4 times a month. So I shared some tips on how to revise all the topics that he missed especially the most challenging chapter i.e LIGHT. The tuition session last for two hours. So we had a chance to discuss some topics on wave chapter and some KBAT discussion on forces and motion.

A day after the class I asked the parent for his feedback on our first session. Alhamdulillah, it went very well as the boy understood the topics we discussed & liked the class very much.

SPM physics: Importance of Mangroves

Sixteen years ago,...what do Acheh & Penang have in common?
Both of them were hit by Tsunami in year of 2004. Penang was not badly hit compared to Acheh in which the tsunami has claimed hundreds of thousands of casualties..
Will tsunami reach Penang again?? I hope not..but in the future u 'll never know...but one thing i wanted to share that mangroves ecosystem is important to minimize the impact of the tsunami.
Last year, President Jokowi of Indonesia instructed his people to plant more mangroves near their coastal areas. In contras..some parts of Malaysia e.g Penang, the mangroves ecosystem were sacrificed for the sake of new development.
Here are some of the links regarding the destruction of Penang mangroves ecosystem: Willing to destroy mangrove forests for the sake of development? Mangrove forest in Juru illegally cleared, confirms assemblyman
Why do we need to protect mangroves????
If u understand the concept of diffraction..mangroves will act as an obstacle to the incoming waves..
When the tsunami waves are diffracted..its amplitude will decrease..in other words, its energy is reduced.
Mangroves' roots also have smaller gaps to reduce further the waves' energy. Watch this video!

Perhaps we need to educate our children and the relevant authorities to appreciate the importance of the mangroves ecosystem. Don't let these ecosystems being sacrificed for the sake of development.. Once they are fully destroyed..it will only jeopardies our future generation.
