Salam Maal Hijrah

jika anda seorang 'penggila game'.....SPM tahun depan dah..main-main gak, study jgn lupa..tapi kalau masih degil, anda bakal menyesal pada bulan Julai 2010..

jika anda malas sembahyang..hai ingatlah..Jgn hanya berlagak alim bila dekat exam, kerana Allah Maha Melihat..so rajin2 lah sembahyang dan byk berdoa drp sekarang

Wassalam..

SPM09 Physics is now a history

Finally its over..SPM physics 2009 is now a history..
Anyway what has been done cant be undone...my advise is focus on next paper . No point crying over the spilt milk.
Btw.I've got this answer for SPM09 P1 from a friend...not sure how accurate it is..coz i'm in vacation & holiday mood..so not enough time to analyse the paper ;)

1.C 2.D 3.A 4.B 5.A 6.B 7.C 8.C 9.A 10.D
11.A 12.B 13.C 14.C 15.A 16.A 17.B 18.B 19.C 20.B
21.B 22.A 23.D 24.D 25.C 26.D 27.D 28.B 29.C 30.B
31.B 32.C 33.B 34.C 35.C 36.B 37.C 38.A 39.C 40.D
41.B 42.C 43.C 44.B 45.B 46.A 47.C 48.B 49.B 50.D

Now its time for SPM physics 2010 candidate to wonder about their fate.
To my dear form 4 students..if u read this..be prepared..coz Paper 1 this yr is much easier than i thought it wud be..i think your year might be harder :) So jgn relax sgt cuti ni. Do some revision..
it bcomes a habit for student to study last minute..
As a proved, just look at the visitors rate to my blog recently..just a day b4 xm,it reached
more than 2000 hits..

I wonder why they dont come & visit it earlier coz i've published the tips a month b4 xm..unlike some of the people who selling the tips a week b4 xm..
haiya mana ada masa nak digest everythin in a week..i think they should at least release it a monh before...otherwise it is unfair coz they ended up paying huge amount of money & not all the tips are accurate...at least 1 month gap is reasonable

So as a lesson to SPM 2010 candidate..my motto is simple, lets "PREPARE..not PREDICT "
I'll continiue to share more physics study tips with 2010 candidates nxt year. Do tell your friends & juniors about this blog..perhaps they can make an early preparation :)

To SPM2009 candidate, i dont think u'll be visiting this blog as often as before..
so please make full use of your free time after SPM..go & get some job..understand the reality of working environment outhere..but dont do SILLY things k :)
Adios..

SPM09: "Physics Judgement Day"

Finally the time has come for your physics paper..& lately so many students asking for tips..if u've followed my blog i've disclosed it about a month a go..u can check my previous post..
I'm taking this opportunity to wish u all the best..just give your best shot in this paper..My final advise will be;

For paper 1:

Read the questions carefully, & underline imprtant hint or facts..so that u r alert with what being asked.
On calculation quest..Carefull with the units conversion..there are lots of 'boobytrap'.
..always check the units.
Dont spend too long on calculation questions
Glance through the pass yr paper for final revision

For paper 2:
Do revise back all the application part coz kat sini lah banyak keluar soalan section B & C.
At this moment just analyse the answer given on this section in the pass yr paper or trial papers or from the seminar booklet that u attended
Browse thru important definition

During exam..Choose the best essay that can give u the most mark..
s while doing calculations..Watch out the unit
Dont exaggerate too much on essay questions..jawab straight to the point jer
1 point= 1 explaination

U can Refer back my previous important checklist for P2,

For paper 3 :
In section B..please understand the situation given carefully b4 u decide which xperiment is the relvant one..
For final revision..Go through quickly on all important physics law yg ada:
i.e F4= newton 1st +2nd law, hookes law, boyles law,charles law,pressure law,snells law
F5= Ohm's law, faraday's law

Go through xperiment on important formulae like:
F4=> F=ma, P=hpg, Q=mc@, BF=pVg, 1/f=1/u+1/v..and etc
F5= lambda=ax/D , V=IR, Emf=V+Ir & etc

In section A, read & understand the questions carefully. Please follow the instruction given.
Dont forget to include units in table, graph, gradient & other calculations

I think thats it for now....to all SPM09 physics candidate I wish u will pass this paper with flying colors..no matter how the questions will look like..Just give your final BEST kay :)

SPM tips: Physics Principle

Hi.. how r u guys..hope u r doing well with your final preparation. Recently so many student asked me for SPM tips or spot question. To tell u the truth, in SPM the questions sometimes can be so unpredictable, especially the last section of paper3 as well as section B & C paper2.
By the way i'm trying my best to share with u about my guts feeling about this year's paper. I think this year one or two of the F4 physics principle that u've learned could be asked in in either paper 2/3. Among all of them, i think the favorate that shall be asked is Archimedes Principle. If u ask which paper ( P2 or P3) it shall be asked..i straight away will say I' dont know!! To be safe u need to study anything about this principle. Find questions on these principle, & try them out.Make sure u study its definition, experiment, calculations, & the most important its APPLICATION.

In the table below i listed out some of the principles that might be a favorate in this year paper. I rated it with star..if theres no star rated, that means it is not among the favorate in paper 2. However all of this principle can be asked in paper1. Like it or not u need to study them all :)
Good luck!!!

Regards,
Cikgufizik@cikgufizbro

A1 Tips: Impossible is NOTHING!

(This post is specially dedicated to my SPM 2009 student)

By the time i write this post, most of u have finished your trial exam. Perhaps this week, u'll be gettin your physics & other trial result. I really hope they will give your trial paper by this week. At least u can analyse your mistakes & try to fix them as soon as possible.

My dear student ..
October-November is the crucial period before your 'BIG' day. Your trial result will give a huge impact on your final preparation. This impact can either be positive or negative. It depends on your mental & spiritual strength. You must be mentally strong to accept your trial result. For those who got a good result, my only advice is do not be over confidence. Polish your strength & improve your weakest point.

However, IF the results do not favor u, its not the time to overkill yourself. U must learn to bounce back! Learn from the great football team like manU, Arsenal,Chelsea & Liverpool! They may had lost a game today..but they 've bounced back& win the next battle. These people can only do it by having courage to learn from their own mistakes. U must formulate their winning attitude!..U must have this kind of attitude!!!

The countdown before your SPM is like a marathon race..U must always look forward. Its time for u to keep on running faster, faster & faster! This is the time for u to sprint until last drop of your sweat! U must stay focus, and try your BEST to finish the race with dignity & respect after all these tireless effort. I warn u!!..this is not the time to look backward or crying and having fear unnecessarily. FEAR is a False Evidence Appearing Real. Do not keep on falling into its trap! U need to BOUNCE back!
Be strong! Think positive! Believe in yourself! Always whisper to your heart..
I'll never give up!
I'll give my best!
I'll get a better result!
I want my parent to be proud of me!!
Nothing Impossible!!
I can do it!!

At this crucial moment, your emotional & spiritual level must be 'extra charged' with prayers & hope to Allah. I'm sure everyone of u have at least put some effort. This is where the tawakkal concept gonna takes place. Pray a lot!!Ask your parent to pray for u!Then, give your best final effort. JUST DO IT and remember....IMPOSSIBLE is NOTHING...

DONT do THIS!!!

Here are some 10 tips on that u should'nt do while studying physics. :

1. DON'T simply memorize the physics' facts without understand the whole concept.

2. DON'T postpone to seek explaination on any concept that u do not understand. Go & seek your teacher's explaination during & after the class. Otherwise find a tutor or good friends that can help you to solve these problems.

3.DON'T simply revise without doing any exersice. U need to practise what u've read.

4.DON'T rely on just one book to study for your SPM. U should also refer to your teachers' notes or other notes available through the net.

5. DON'T revise without knowing the objective or learning outcome of each subtopic. U must know what is the purpose of studying that particular sub-topic. Refer the learning outcome in your text book.

6. DON'T simply study without knowing how to relate each concept into its real life application. Please refer the application section for each subtopic.

7.DON'T simply look at the model answer without trying the questions.

8. DON'T say that u've completed revising physics's formulae,LAW & Principle until u've enabled to design their experiment.

9. DON'T study a subtopic without knowing how to relate it to other subtopics. For example while studying Pressure, u must relate certain concept about Pressure in what u've learned in chapter 2, i.e Forces & motion.

10. Finally..DON'T hate physics. If u hate it.. u've put more pressure on yourself. Just enjoy studying it and try to fall in love with this lovely subject :)

For my form 4 students, if u apply all these tips from now on, inshaAllah u wont have much problem in your 2010 SPM.
Good luck & all the best!

Best wishes & regards,
Cikgufizik-physics4spm.com

"PRESSURE" buat aku "TERTEKAN"

Aku tertekan...
Ish..aku ditekan...
Ada yang menekan..
Hampir semua ruang ditekan..
Tapi..siapa yang tekan??...

Ish..aku terpaksa...
Banyak yang memaksa..
Ada 'FORCE' sana sini
Aku dlm tekanan..
Mungkin 'PRESSURE' yang tekan...

Otak aku kecik...
Otak aku tak luas...
'AREA' makin susut
Beban aku makin banyak...
Ah!! 'over LOADED'..

Aku terTEKAN....
Aku kena TEKAN...
Aku dalam TEKANAN
Ah tidakk!!...PRESSSURE buat aku terTEKAN !

Tiba-tiba..Datang suara berpesan
Sabarlah wahai teman..
Tenanglah lah wahai kawan...
Jangan kau tambah beban..
Luaskanlah fikiran..
Tambah RUANG bersama TUHAN
Yang bersifat Ar-Rahman....
Zikir jadikan Teman
Beban jadi ringan..
Tiada lagi rasa TERTEKAN..

Physics Gossip: Hot Girl

One day, after a physics's Heat lesson..Raju ,Lim & Anis had lucnch & gossipping about this HOT girl.

Raju: Lim, u know what!I think that HOT girl is very bad temper
Lim: NO lah..she just not in a good mood
Raju:Well everyday nak marah je
Lim: Yeah u r right! I think sumthing wrong with her
Raju: I guessed I know the reason..
Lim: Really! What??
Raju: I know She ‘s HOT but I think she has low specific heat capacity!!!
Lim: What the s##t are u talking???
Raju: Yeah..its true.. low specific heat capacity means u can easily get HOT!
Lim: What???
Raju: When someone kacau je, she’s get HOT instantly..
Lim: But u must remember, she is easily cool down after that ma..
Raju: See!I told u..things with lower specific heat capacity will be easily cool down as well.
Anis: Oh, if that’s the case I think Rajuu, u have high specific heat capacity!!
Raju: Of course lah..i’m not easily get HOT hehe :)
Anis: ....and u r not ‘HOT’ as well huhu :p
Lim: Haiya..u guys read too much physics la
Raju/ANis: Of course la..SPM got one more month to study ma!

Salam Ramadhan Al Mubarakh

Tatkala sibuk aku mengulangkaji,
Baru sedar..Ramadan datang lagi..
Penghulu segala bulan yang diberkati..

Sang Syaitan bakal digari..

Hanya tinggal nafsuku sendiri..

Patutkah ada rasa malas lagi..

Untuk aku mengaji..
Untuk aku bangun 4 pagi..
Bertaqarrub kepada Ilahi..

Dosa-dosa lalu harus ditangisi..
Agar diterangi hati..
Mencari satu malam yang dicari-cari

Malam yang penuh misteri..
Malam pujaan para wali
..

Aku lemah Ya Ilahi..

Tekanan SPM sedangku hadapi..

Akibat kelalaian diri sendiri..

Kepada mu ku tangisi..
Memohon apa tersirat di hati...

Aku lemah Ya Ilahi...
Kejayaan SPM ingin ku hajati..
Berilah aku ketenangan hati..

Permudahkanlah urusan ulangkaji..

Agar ilmuku diberkati..
Menjadi mukmin yang sejati.

Quick Revision Series

Form 4 Revision:Chapter 3:Pressure

By using kinetic theory of gases, explain how gas pressure exist in a container?

- A gas consists of molecules that moves freely & at random
- This causes the molecules to hit the container's wall frequently
-There is rate of change of momentum exerted on per unit area of the wall during each collision.
- This causes pressure to be exerted on the wall.

What instrument being used to measure gas pressure?

Bourdon Gauge

Explain atmospheric Pressure?
-The earth is developed by a layer of air or gas molecules referred as atmosphere.
-Weight of these air molecules are pushing down on the earth surface
-Thus atmospheric pressure is exerted.

How does atmospheric pressure affected by altitude? Explain your answer.
-The higher the altitude, the fewer the gas molecules are present.
-There are less weight of air molecules pushing down towards the surface area
-Therefore, less atmospheric pressure being exerted.
-As a conclusion, the higher the altitude, the lower the atmospheric pressure.

Electromagnet's "Birthday"

Hi guys..how's your revision?..hope u are doing well with your trial & SPM preparation..

If u notice today, google has displayed above image on top of its search engine. It looks like a wire coiled on a nail, which then connected to a battery. Hmm.. it seems like an electromagnet, isn it?
Then i checked & found out the image is meant to remind us on the birthday of a man named
Hans Christian Ørsted.
Who is he??? ..to know more about this mysterious guy, read this article if u wanna know abt some SPM tips:

While preparing for an evening lecture on 21 April 1820, Ørsted developed an experiment which provided evidence that surprised him. As he was setting up his materials, he noticed a compass needle deflected from magnetic north when the electric current from the battery he was using was switched on and off. This deflection convinced him that magnetic fields radiate from all sides of a wire carrying an electric current, just as light and heat do, and that it confirmed a direct relationship between electricity and magnetism. The first person to observe this phenomenon was actually Gian Domenico Romagnosi in 1802[2]. Romagnosi's account of an electrostatic charge from a voltaic pile deflecting a magnetic needle, published in an Italian newspaper, was largely overlooked by the contemporary scientific community.

At the time of discovery, Ørsted did not suggest any satisfactory explanation of the phenomenon, nor did he try to represent the phenomenon in a mathematical framework. Three months later he began more intensive investigations. Soon thereafter he published his findings, proving that an electric current produces a magnetic field as it flows through a wire.

His findings resulted in intensive research throughout the scientific community in electromagnetism. The findings influenced French physicist André-Marie Ampère's developments of a single mathematical form to represent the magnetic forces between current-carrying conductors.

Well..i think he has contributed a lot in the world of physics. As a result, like it or not, u & i have to crack our brain while studying his discovery on electromagnet. I think electromagnet gonna be one of the favorate questions in SPM this year as well as in trial exam for KL student. So make sure u 've covered abt principle of electromagnet, induction, lenz law, faradays law & its experiment and its application like electric bell, motor, generator & etc.

By the way..to Mr Hans..just wanna wish uHappy Birthday wherever u are :) hehe

SPM "A1" vs H1N1

Hi guys,

Many student asked me why I dont post quite often as i always did. Some of them said i did inspire them to study through my series of SPM tips. Well if it did inspired some of u, i thank Allah for His word of wisdom. There were many unplanned things happened to me. My health condition was not encouraging as well. I had flu, bad cough & soar throat for a week & not fully recovered. Thank to Allah... I 'm not infected by this 'selsema b@b!'. We had enough of JE
last time, and now its H1N1. I believed there are thousands of hikmah why muslims are prohibited from eating this creature.

Somehow i've to quarantine myself from seeing my student. I dont want them feel uncomfortable while doing their revision, especially in this critical moment. Lots of my students dint go to school for preventive measure. However there's one of them who is positively infected by H1N1..& i wish she'll get well as soon as possible.

Realizing the chaos caused by this H1N1, i want to share with u how important for 2009 SPM candidates to look after their heath. It shall be a sad thing if u have to sit for exam while having a flu, selsema, batuk, pening, sakit perut..patah kaki due to football match & etc. Patah kaki?? Can it happen to u? Well i wanna share a true story about my friend who had to take SPM with a broken hand. He involved in a stupid fight with a group of student which ended up broken
his right hand just 2 weeks before SPM. He took the SPM with extra hours but in the end received a bad result. Of course we can't deny 'takdir Ilahi', but..we can put serious effort to prevent it. As the wise man said "Prevention is better than Cure". In my friend's case,he should had avoided those stuff rather than getting involved directly with the fight.

Another thing that makes me worry is about some students'habit & lifestyle. These students are staying up until late night to do revision which they seldom did in the past months. Then, they 've to wake up early for school. If u are one of them, i think your biological clock being forced a sudden change.I'm not good in biology, but i do believe this causes your body to be restless.Trust me..the next couple of months gonna be a stressful period. Your brain need to handle lots of pressure.Your
body has to adjust with increase in anxiety, worryying, panicking, fatigue & high level of adrenaline. Macam-macam feelings ada! In the end your body system is defenceless to diseases like flu, cold, migraine & the worst case should be H1N1. Just imagine if any of those diseases affected u on the day of exam..
No point if u've made an excellent preparation but due to your ignorance of your own health, u've to sit for SPM in discomfort. Definitely its gonna affect your A1 result.

My sincere advice is.. please dont take your health for granted. Start to practise healthy diet & healthy lifestyle. Take a lot of fruits & vegetables in your daily meal. If possible, ask your parents for multivitamin and other supplement. U must be fully fit either physically or mentally before your big day.
Let us pray that may Allah give all of us a good health on the day of SPM.
Ameen

F4 Quick Revision: Pressure

"Revision of the Day Series"

1. Presure is defined as the force acting pependicularly on per unit area
P= F/ A

2. Pressure in liquids:
P = h ρ g

What is the relationship between depth of liquid and pressure?
The more the depth of liquid the more the pressure at the lowest point of liquid

What is the relationship between density of liquid and pressure?
The higher the density of liquid the higher the pressure

3. Atmospheric Pressure:
-The atmospheric pressure is influenced by the altitude
-The higher the altitude from sea level the lower the atmospheric pressure

4. Archimedes principle:
Buoyant Force = Weight of fluid displaced
(B.F= ρVg)

Factors that affect buoyant force in liquid:
-Volume of object/material
larger volume = bigger buoyant force

-Density of the liquid,
denser liquid exerts larger buoyant force

-Gravitational field strength, g

Relation between buoyant force (B.F) & weight of object:
Object floats when, B.F = Weight of object
Object sinks when, B.F < Weight of object

Relation between volume of object & volume of liquid displace:
Volume of immersed object = volume of liquid displace
......................................................................................................................................................................

Bernoulli Principle:
High speed flow of fluid causes low in pressure.

SPM Paper 3: Graph Plotting

Hi guys...hows your revision?
.. trial exam's fever is around the corner..its temperature is approaching the boiling point now :)
Hope u are doing well with your revision..
Here i wanna share some short tips about plotting graph in paper3 .

When u are being asked to plot a graph for section A paper 3, please make sure u include the following item:

(i)Title of graph
-Usually we start the title by mentioning the "quantity in Y-axis VS quantity of x-axis"
-Example:
Title of graph: Graph of V versus I
V represents Y -axis, I represents X-axis

(ii) Labels of x-axis and y-axis and units
-Make sure u include the labels & their units for each axis. Usually,
x-axis represents the manipulated variables
y-axis represents the responding variables

(iii) The vertical and horizontal scales must be even.
-Please choose the right scale based on the data given. Your scale should produce a larger graph
-Choosing right scale is important in order to let u to plot the points easily

(iv) Size of the graph is about ¾ of the graph paper.
-Make sure your chosen scale will produce a larger graph which occupies about 3/4 of the paper
-If your graph's size is less than 1/2 of the page..u better redo the graph ;)

(v) Dont forget to write values for the origin of the graph
Most graph starts with zero but there's case that some graph starts with a nonzero.

(vi) Use small cross mark (x) to plot the coordinates of the point in the graph
Make sure u plot the right point according to the data collected in the table.

Gradient calculation tips
In section B, they always ask u to calculate the gradients. While doing it make sure
-The chosen point should at least have a distance equivalent to 1/2 of the length of the graph
-please draw the triangle between the chosen point
For curvy graph, u need to draw the tangent line to find the gradient.

I think that's it for now, may it be useful to those who is weak in paper3.

SPM F.A.Q: National Grid Network

If you study based on SPM checklist subtopic 3.5 that i listed in previous post, u'll be having less problem answering SPM physics' questions. TAk percaya??

Lets analyse the following SPM year 2005:
Question 12:
(a) Most of our electrical energy comes from hydroelectric power stations and thermal power stations. These power stations are connected by cables to transmit electricity to users in industries, offices, schools and houses. This system is called the national grid network.

(i) State the transformations of energy in a hydroelectric power station. [1 mark]
(Refer checklist 2)

(ii) Explain briefly the importance of the national grid network system in distributing electrical energy to the users. [4 marks]
(refer checklist 5)

Answers:
i. Gravitational Potential Energy -->Kinetic Energy--> Electrical Energy
(to understand about energy transformation, u need to appreciate principle of conservation of energy)

ii. ( u can choose any 4 of these advantages)
  • It enables continuous supply of electricity to the end user.
  • If one of the station break down, the other network can still operate.
  • Overall cost of the transmission network can be reduced
  • Energy loss is minimised due to use of high voltage transmission
  • General maintenance can be done without any interruption of power suply in other area.

Lets analyse the following question:
Figure 12.1 shows how a model of an electric transmission system can be set up in a laboratory. The model consists of a power station that generates 12 V of alternating current (a.c) that transmits the electrical energy to the users using transmission wires and transformers P, Q and R. If the resistance of the transmission wires between transformers P and Q in the model at Figure 12.1 is 30ohm , calculate:

(i) the current that flows in the transmission wire,
***Why don't u try this on your own :)

(ii) the power loss due to the heating effect of the currect in the transmission wire.
(refer checklist no. 4 for a clue)
[5 marks]
Answer:
i. 0.8A
ii. 19.2 W

So my advice is, make sure u cover all the aspect that being asked in those checklist.

3.5 Transmission of Electricity

Subtopic 3.5 is the last topic in Electromagnet which covers the generation & transmission of electricity. This subtopichow transformer plays the role in our transmission network.

Here i list out theSPM checklist for this subtopic:

You must be able to do the following:

1. List the Sources of energy used to generate electricity.
e.g, nuclear power, hyro power, wind & etc

2. Then..Describe ways to generate electricity..
U need to describe details of the examples given in number 1.Descibe how the energy is transformed for each case. For example, describe how hydoelectric power can generate electricity. ..I mean u need to explain how water is used to rotate the turbine to drive the generators. (Its all in your books)

3. Describe the transmission of electricity?
This one is important. It has been asked in previous SPM paper. So make sure u understand the model of eletricty transmission system. In other words, please study about our national grid network.

Power Station--> Step up trnsformer-->Transmission cables(wires)-->SubStation-->

4. Describe the loss of electrical energy in the transmission cables
Please notice that there is loss of energy along the cables into heat. U can calculate power loss using this equation P=I^2R..please read further on this in yr reference book.

5. State the importance of National Grid Network?
U need to list the advantages of using this networksuch as increase in efficiency, easy to maintain and etc. U can easily find this facts in your book..all u need to do is take out your reference book & read it NOW! :)

6. Explain the importance of renewable energy?
Well..please read this as well..its just like doing your english essay :)
When petrol price gone up last year, everybody is making noise. So its your task to explain that its crucial for us to find sources of renewable energy.

Basically after u've gone though checklist..
the next important thing is to DO QUESTIONS!!

SPM Questions: Transformer

In previous post,I gave u some SPM checklist instead of detailed notes about transformer. The reason i did that is to let u to do some work & revise what had been asked from the checklist.
Another reason bcoz i hate to spoon feed my student...

Usually..SPM questions are designed from those checklist. You can find these checklist in your text books under the column called learning outcome. If u have covered & understood everything that being asked in the outcome,i'm sure u can grab at least a 'B' for physics. However to get an A.. u need to do lots of extra exercises for P1,P2 & P3.
I know some of u hate to refer yr txt book..but trust me, those outcomes are your guidance..

Here i want to disucss some SPM passed year questions about transformer.
In my previous checklist, i asked u to state & relate the equation of ideal transformer. If u really understand the equation for ideal transformer, u shoudnt having prblem answering these questions. However your undrstanding on electricity must be strong enough..
Lets check'em out..

1.
SPM 2004

The important keyword in this questions is 'ideal transformer'.So in the xm i strongly advice u to underline this keyword. For ideal transformer, the output power is equal to input power.Since the bulb is having the same rating voltage & power, so it will produce same brightness. Answer: B

2.
(b) Figure 4.2 shows a circuit consisting of a transformer, an ammeter and two light bulbs. The ammeter reading is 0.5 A and both bulbs light up with normal brightness.

(i) What is the output voltage of the transformer?
(ii) Calculate the efficiency of the transformer?

i) Answer=12V
Explaination:
The bulbs are arranged in parallel. So the voltage across the bulbs are the same i.e 12V. The voltage across the bulb represents the output voltage of the transformer.
Basically this questions wanna test your basic understanding about electric circuit.

(ii) Calculate the efficiency of the transformer.
Efficiency = (Pout / Pin) x 100

Total P
out=2(24) =48W
Pin = VI =240 ( 0.5)= 120W

Eff= (48) / 120) } x 100
= 40%

Basically this questions wanna test your basic understanding about electric circuit. Please make sure u understand the parallel & series circuit calculation..

SPM:Transformer

Transformer is another important subtopic u need to master under Electromagnet. It is frequently being asked in paper1 & paper 2 SPM.

SPM checklist:,
i. u must know how to describe the structure of transformer & its working principle

ii. then u must know the difference between step-up & step-down transformer

iii. u must know how to state equation of ideal transformer,
i.e Vs/Vp= Ns/Np as well as VpIp=VsIs

iv. Question can also ask u to describe & explain about the energy losses in transformer

v. Next, u must also know the ways to improve efficiency of a transformer.

vi. Finally..u must know to solve the calculations

After reading all those checklist, go & revise your reference book for important key points.
Here i include cool videos frm the net which had explained some important part of the above checklist.

SPM tips: Revise Effectively !

Hi guys..

We are now in month of July...your BIG day is getting inches wide. I'm sure most of u r busy doing revision..are'nt u :)??

For those who have revised systematically since form4, they should not be feeling any pressure by now. But if you have not, i believe only u can describe how's your feelings rite now :) However do not panic. By panicking & worrying too much, it will not do u any good.You are beyond control over the time that has passed, but you certainly can maximize your remaining time effectively. The following short tips are ways to help you to maximize your revision efficiently;

- Please bear in mind,it is the quality of your revision that counts, not the quantity. You must keep track of the productivity of your revision, not just how long you have been revising. How?? One way is by doing questions. Never do any revison whitout practising questions. SPM measures your ability to answer questions, not how long you've revised. You need to practise all type of questions, ie paper 1, paper 2 & paper 3. Try to learn from the given answers. The more you've done it, the easier it becomes.

- How to practise efficiently? You can Make your own lists of topic that u r weakest in. Then find topical questions frm yr exercise book and give it a try. If possible, pass trial & SPM questions is the best to begin with.

- Extract some of the answers in key points or mind map, then make it as your own note. Make your note neat & pleasant to read. You can save more precious time instead of reading the whole book and u can cover more questions in this way. BUT please understand the answer..again, dont simply memorize them.

- Another way to revise is by making summaries of everything as you read and revise. Then work with the summaries as you read. You must revise everything often, not just once. We human tend to forget easily coz in our life there's lots of distraction such as tv, games, sports & others..

- Work in short, sharp durations with breaks in between. This keeps your concentration in optimal level. Reward yourself within the interval. For example, get some ice cream in between revision, sounds nice rite ;)

- When exams is getting too close, spend more time polishing things you know. So make sure you get your mind clear about things u dont know by now. Otherwise do u think u can digest things u dont know wihtin a week b4 exam??

What i listed just now are some common tips discovered through my experience & from those who has been doing research in revision methodology. There are many other tips that could be mentioned here..but for me no point if i listed all the tips but none of u is applying it. May be some of u have already applied your own method. If it is working productively just continue with it.

At the end of the day, u must learn how to revise effectively rather than having hours of non productive revision. I really wish all of u can do well in your SPM..Its all in your hands!! Go & try your BEST!!

SPM Questions: Motors & Generators

As i mentioned before, to understand application of each physics subtopic is vital. Usually in SPM they'll ask u about this in section B & C , paper 2.
For example, let us analyse an SPM question taken from year 2006 about motors.
But as usual, those who created the question loved to confuse the students.

Take a look at the diagram below.
Lets discuss the 1st part..the question asked them
i. explain how AC motor can rotate

If we analyse the diagram, they gave a labeled diagram for an AC motor. If u notice, we hardly find notes on reference book or textbook about AC motor. (try & find it)But we have been given in details about the structure of AC generators. If the student tend to simply memorize, they might had been described the AC generator working principle instead of AC motors. I would advice in this case for u to underline the word motor as to make u alert of things that being asked.

Basically to answer the 1st part, u just simply describe details of the turning effect in dc motor and mention what happen if the current changed in direction from the AC supply. U can draw diagram to help u describing the principle.

Now on the 2ndpart:
The question asked the student to modify the device into DC motor & make it rotate faster.
Again.. i strongly advice u underline these words, "DC motor & rotate faster". So in your answer you must give points on both cases.
-First, u need to explain how u are going to convert it into DC motor
..here comes the importance of revising the application of each subtopic. If u never read about motors, u are having difficulties answering this question.
Moreover in this case they combine some concept in Electronics to change the AC to DC.

-Then, give points on how to make it rotate faster.... I'm not gonna give u the answer for this, coz u can find it in your reference book or cerdik's passed year's book. So apa tunggu lagi, bukak lah buku..pegi baca ;)

What i'm trying to emphasize here is, please dont take for granted of any applications in each subtopic. In this case, u really need to identify the differences between AC-DC motors &
AC-DC generators.
But dont simply memorize them, understand how they work.
Who knows, it might come out in your trial..

Funny & Daring Physics Student

Hi there..
today i just wanna share with u guys something i found on the net that really make me LOL :)
I'm warning my student in advance..never answer like these anak mat salleh..
If hundreds of SPM student answer like them, the SPM examiner will be warded soon after marking your paper :)

Physics can be so enjoyable rite ??? :))

(click the images to enlarge)

Anyway..physics & science students are really 'creative'..aren't they?
..........Enjoy your revision :)

SPM Physics: AC Generator

The different between AC & DC generator is:
-it consists of 2 slip rings instead of commutator
-slip rings allows current in outer circuit to flow in different direction

For better undertanding, watch how it moves in the video below..

The output induce current varies at different angle of the coil rotation. Observe the graph below.

  • The current is zero when the coil is vertical. This is because the coil is parallel with magnetic field results in no magnetic field being cut. Thus no current is induced.
  • The current is maximum when the coil is horizontal. At this point maximum rate of change or rate of cutting of the magnetic fields occur.
  • You also must be able to differentiate the output graph of AC & DC generator. Click image below to see the diffrence.

SPM Tips: Do SWAT Analysis

Through survey i've made in this blog ..majorities of the students said they didnt get a good results. Well..if u are now in form 5 & among of those who got bad results, i advice u to do SWAT analysis.
What is S.W.A.T analysis??
It is a postmortem technique to identify the following:

S= Strength
Know where is your strength in physics. Polish that particlar topics so that they will be your best bet while answering SPM paper. Make sure u didnt do any mistakes if these topics come out in SPM.

W=weakness
This is far more important. By now u should know where's your weakness. For example, ask this questions:

Which topic that u are not familiar with?
Which paper has degrade most of your marks..is it paper1, 2 or 3?
If paper 2,then zoom in,..which section..is it section A, B & C.
Learn from those mistakes u had made..& most important DON'T REPEAT THE SAME mistake.
One more thing, U'll be having a BIG problem if u do not know 'what u don't know' ..faham ke??
So please identify what is the topics that u know nothing about them b4 its TOO late.

A=Action
Once u've analysed both strength & weakness, its time to do some action about it. Go & plan how to improve your weaknesess. Here i list out some suggestion:

-Add more hours in your study scheddule & focus on improving yr weakness.
-Do lots of questions on your weakest topics. Find some pass yr questions as well. -Do study group to improve your understanding. It is more effective as u'll learn better while discussing it with others. -If your parent has more budget, U can hire a personal tutor to improve your understanding. U can clarify most of the doubts abt physics with the tutor.

T=Threat
Identify what are other things that keep u away frm doing revison. For example, ask this followingquestions:
-Is internet keeping u away frm study?
IF YES..
u need to be disiplined . Instead of surfing on non important things, u shud stick to my blog & study physics :)

-Does playing video games, watching TV make u end up doing NO revision?
What else i'm gonna say..just stop it..SPM is once in a lifetime. After that mainlah puas2.

-Does your relationship with someone affect yr study?
If tis is the case, just forget him/her...,.. appreciate your youth time.
Dont over explore.. Love yourself. Trust me, in the end u wont end up married with him/her.
Most of the time u'll only get HURT
..Anyway benda2 couple ni buat tambah dosa jer and might lead u getting a bad SPM result ..
Trust me..i'm an xperienced teacher & have seen lots of them end up got BAD results.

-Family problems?
Well i had an experienced where a student flunk on his SPM due to this problem. If u are among them, go & seek counsillor for advise or share it with someone u can trust. Be THOUGH & pray a lot!
The bottom line is..Please identify other THREATS that distract u frm doing SPM revision.

So that is what SWAT analysis is all about.
S=Strength
W=Weakness
A=Action
T=Threat

After u've analysed & studied all these aspect , u need to manage all those information and start to do some ACTION!
Start it NOW!

Best wishes & regards,
